WASHINGTON, PA—May 29, 2015 -The Pennsylvania Rebellion fall to the Chicago Bandits by a final score of 2-0 in Friday’s home opener at CONSOL Energy Park.
Kirsten Verdun got the call for the Bandits in the circle against the Rebellion starter, Angel Bunner. Both pitchers shut down any hopes of any early offensive start for either team, with no runs allowed through the first three innings.
Samie Garcia showed off her fielding skills early in the second, making some impressive plays in left field that would keep the game scoreless after two. Great fielding would not be enough, however, the Bandits would take advantage of a bases loaded situation, scoring two runs off of a Danielle Zymkowitz ground-rule double.
Verdun allowed just six hits through seven innings while striking out five batters. In addition to the hitting by Zymkowitz, outfielder Brenna Moss went 2-for-4 at the plate in her regular season debut.
Olivia Watkins and Cheyenne Cordes would both have multiple hit nights including a ground rule double by Cordes in the sixth in an attempted rally, but impressive fieldwork from Chicago would prevent any such rally from happening.

The Rebellion will be at home again Saturday, May 30th for an unusual double header against the Akron Racers in game one starting at 5:05 p.m. and again facing the Chicago Bandits just sixty minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Since 2005, the Chicago Bandits have been members of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league. Located in Rosemont, the Bandits provide an opportunity for female fastpitch players to further their careers at a professional level, and the roster has included such names as Jennie Finch, Stacy May-Johnson and Monica Abbott. The 2015 season will be the Bandits 11th season in the NPF.
The Rebellion is a professional women’s softball team competing as part of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF). Joining the gritty, fast-paced league in 2014, the Rebellion will play head-to-head against the most talented players in the sport.
