Washington, PA – May 30, 2015 – On Saturday, May 30, the Pennsylvania Rebellion split their double header with the visiting Akron Racers and Chicago Bandits. The Rebellion earned their first win of the season in game one over the Racers by a score of 6-3. In the second game, the Rebellion suffered their second loss of the season to the Bandits 5-0.
In the first game of the Saturday-evening festivities, the Rebellion scored five runs in the fifth inning and never relinquished their lead as they cruised to their game one victory. The first run was scored by pinch runner Ashley Carter. Center fielder Courtney Senas and right fielder Samie Garcia also crossed the plate. Right fielder Alexa Peterson capped off the impressive inning by hitting a two-run double that drove in catcher Mandy Ogle and shortstop Olivia Watkins.
In the sixth, Akron threatened with three runs on a two-run triple by right fielder Jennifer Gilbert and a one-run single by the left fielder Shellie Robinson but their attack was halted by the Rebellion’s stout defense. Pennsylvania collected one final security run in the latter half of the inning courtesy of Garcia’s second RBI of the game.
Pitcher Allyson Fournier, who was signed one day prior to today’s games, came in relief and earned her first NPF-career win. The Tufts University graduate did not allow a run and recorded two strikeouts. Angel Bunner picked up her first save of the season as well.
In game two, the Rebellion fell behind after the Bandits plated four runs in the third inning off the bats of left fielder Brenna Moss and shortstop Tammy Williams. During the fourth inning, the designated player, Kirsten Verdun, doubled to right center and that allowed right fielder RT Cantillo to score one more run.
Solid defensive plays, including a number of web gem-worthy stops by Senas in center field, kept Chicago’s bats at bay for the remainder of the contest. Unfortunately, the Rebellion were unable to create a rally of their own, however, giving Chicago their second win of the weekend series.
The Rebellion will get yet another chance to best the Bandits, as well as the Racers. First pitch is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, May 31, at 2:35 PM.
