USA Women’s Softball Team drops 3-2 game to Australia

USA Women’s National Team lost 3-2 in seven innings at Azzano, Italy on Friday, despite outhitting Australia six to five.

Michelle Moultrie paced USA Women’s National Team at the plate. Moultrie went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. She singled in the second inning and homered in the seventh inning.

Australia couldn’t get anything going as long as Sara Nevins was in the circle. Australia managed just one hit off of the USA Women’s National Team’s pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during her three innings of work.

Kaia Parnaby got the win for Australia. She allowed one run over 3 1/3 innings. She struck out four, walked one and surrendered two hits.

Australia was sparked by Stacey Porter and Leight Godfrey, who teamed up for four hits and two RBIs.

Jessica Moore was the game’s losing pitcher. She lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out three, and allowed one run.

The top of the third saw USA Women’s National Team take an early lead, 1-0. USA Women’s National Team’s threat began with a single by Kelsey Stewart. A groundout by Haylie McCleney then moved Stewart from first to second.

Australia answered USA Women’s National Team’s top inning with two runs of its own in the third. Australia scored on an RBI single by Stacey Porter and a groundout by Melinda Weaver.

It didn’t take long for Australia to answer as it scored one run of its own in the seventh. Australia scored on an RBI triple by Stacey Porter.
