NO. 17 / GOLD COAST HURRICANES – HAMMONDS

Gold Coast Hurricanes Hammonds was a potent, well balanced team that excelled in all aspects of the game. Its roster was filled with high powered, talented student-athletes which propelled the Hurricanes to the ASA Florida State Championship title for the 12th time; a 3rd place finish at the JO Cup with its loss coming at the hands of eventual champions, Fury Platinum; and a 3rd place finish out of over 110 teams at Atlanta Legacy tournament.

Kevin Hammonds is excited about the 2018 – 2019 season, especially with the addition of Macie Welch. She joined the team late last season and made an instant impact. A 6 foot left-handed pitcher out of Paron, Akransas, she throws a nasty drop curve in the low to mid 60s and will help anchor first base while batting top five in the line-up. Hammonds also added newcomer, pitcher Madison McDaniel for the 2018-2019 season saying, “she will be my #2 arm and has given us more depth on the mound than we have ever had.”

Key Players:

  • Morgan McMillan (2021, P/UT) Uncommitted – “McMillan is a player that every coach dreams of, she throws upper 50s and touches 60 on the mound and can play all 9 positions on the field. Her athleticism, personality and leadership keep this team loose and confident.”
  • Kylie Hammonds (2022, OF) Uncommitted – Led the Hurricanes batting avg, OBP and assists in the OF. Is also a “stud” level 10 gymnast.
  • Amaya Ross (2021, SS) Florida State – Led team in slugging percentage, home runs and is the “most polished ’03 SS” around in Hammonds opinion.
  • Taylor Morgan (2021, OF) Uncommitted – An OF with elite speed and strong glove, Hammonds says she is,  “very under the radar”.
  • Macie Welch (P) Uncommitted – Considering offers from Florida State, Alabama or Oklahoma
  • Emily Griffin (2022, 3B/2B/SS) Uncommitted
  • Halie Wetherington (2021, P/2B) Uncommitted
  • Carson Frier (2021, C/3B/SS) UCF

NO. 18 / INDIANA MAGIC GOLD – 04 BAY

Head Coach Scott Bay is proudly quick to point out his Indiana Magic Gold team was only a 13U program last season! IMG Bay recorded a 5th place finish at USA Elite Select, losing a tight contest to eventual champions Hotshots Falterman. This very young, raw team possesses a lot of talent but has looked to add more depth and speed for the upcoming 2018-2019 season. IMG Bay has increased its roster from 11 to 13 returning a solid core of last season’s athletes with a mix of new faces. Keep an eye on this team as they gain experience at the national level.

“Of the added players we added a very fast outfield from TN with great power and insane speed [Aniyah Haley, 2022]. We added a shortstop and second baseman [Kylee Edwards, 2023 and Camille Burelison]. Both of these new middle infielders are starters. We also added a strong #3 pitcher that also runs fast and plays outfield [Alanah Jones, 2022]. We would consider ourselves a MUCH better team than we were last year” – Scott Bay.

The addition of these new faces have clearly made an immediate impact as IMG Bay just won the Indiana Fall State USSSA Tournament. The Magic scored 85 runs while only allowing 9 and smacking 7 home runs on Sunday alone.

Bay is excited for the coming year and his team has big goals in sight, “this team will have a very fun season and plans to finish in PGF Huntington Beach.”

NO. 20 / MIZUNO STORM MATHIS

A veteran team that will move up to the 16U division this coming year, the storm lived up to the hype.  Fueled by a strong, experienced, and very talented core of athletes the Storm won the Colorado Sparkler Jr Power Pool Championship with a record of 9-1-1. Mathis’ team also put together an impressive run in the PGF Premier bracket. After winning its first two games, Mathis dropped into the losers bracket and went on a tear winning five straight games and avenging its initial loss to the PA Strikers, 8-3, before bowing out of the tournament.

There’s no signs of slowing down for Storm Mathis, keep an eye on them as they move up to 16U!
