5 Things you may have missed in College Softball Friday

Arizona senior Danielle O’Toole threw her first career no-hitter against the Washington Huskies. She faced just two over the minimum with eight strikeouts and one walk. O’Toole’s no-hitter was the 90th in Arizona history but the first seven-inning since 2008 Arizona scored three runs to back the outstanding performance from its ace. Tamara Statman led the Wildcats’ offense with two hits including her second home run of the year.

Hard-hitting Hoosiers

Indiana exploded for 23 runs in the latter half of the day’s doubleheader against Rutgers. The 23 runs are the most in Big Ten play in program history and the most in a single game since 1978. Fourteen different players scored a run for Indiana and 13 picked up at least one hit. The Hoosiers ended up outscoring Rutgers 32-4 on the day.

Chambers-Book

SIUE senior Haley Chambers-Book struck out 18 Tennessee State hitters in her first no-hitter of the season. It was the fifth of her career. She was so dominate, the Tigers only hit two balls in fair territory all game, one of them making it to the outfield. The other was a pop-up to first base.

Minnesota

The Gophers opened Big Ten season play with a 16-0 win in five innings over Nebraska. Minnesota had 15 hits and only allowed three. Kately Kemmetmueller collected her first collegiate hit in the fifth inning. Eleven different Gophers recorded at least one hit and 14 now have had at least one hit this season.

LSU

Constance Quinn’s bases-loaded single in the 7th inning lifted the Tigers to a 4-3 win over Georgia. The Bulldogs scored two in the first to take the early lead. LSU fought back to take the lead away in the fifth only to be answered by a tie in the sixth. Carley Hoover got the win. She allowed three hits, three runs, one earned run and three walks while striking out four on 113 pitches.
