FPN Series of the Week ends in chaos

Kaylee Carlson secured a 1-0 win for Auburn Monday night when she blocked an Amanda Lorenz liner up them middle with her shin and threw her out at first. The final out snapped Florida’s 21-game winning streak. Florida did take 2-of-3 from the Tigers to win the series.

Auburn’s victory was its first win in Gainesville since 2006 and the 1,500th win for head coach Clint Myers. Unlike Michigan’s Carol Hutchins and Arizona’s Mike Candrea, Myers’ victories are a combination of baseball and softball dating back to his start at Central Arizona in 1987.

But, it was the actions following Game three of the Auburn-Florida series that have overshadowed the greatness of the game and the accomplishment of Myers and his team.

Social media is buzzing over the incident between Auburn shortstop Haley Fagan and Florida’s head coach Tim Walton.

Former LSU great Bianka Bell chimed in with her two cents with advice from Beth Torina.

In fact, instead of highlights from the game on SportsCenter, the lone highlight was the scuffle until Kasey McCrackin made the Top 10 with her diving play at second base.

It’s a shame that the focus shifted to the negative instead of the positive. So, with that being said, Fastpitch News is now going to shed some light on the positive and what actually happened during the game.

The lone run came in the top of the second inning off the bat of Kendall Veach and over the left field wall. The long ball was her eighth of the year.

Pitching was the name of the game. Both Starters seemed to be firing on all cylinders.  One pitch, the home run by Veech, was the difference.

Kaylee Carlson’s change up was back and kept the Gators’ bats off-balance. In seven innings, she allowed three hits and five walks while striking out four. She improved to 16-1 on the season, her only loss coming in Game 1 of the series Saturday night.

Delaney Gourley fell to 11-2 and struck out 10. She also surrendered just three hits and one walk in the loss.

Next up for Auburn is a weekend series at Georgia while Florida heads to Arkansas.
