Nebraska junior infielder Alicia Armstrong earned second team All-Big Ten for the second straight year in 2014 despite having to play through a nagging back injury. With the honor she became only the third Husker in history to earn an all-conference award in each of their first two seasons.

On the season she posted a .316 batting average with 55 hits, 10 doubles, three triples and four home runs. She ended the season with 27 RBI as well. During the NCAA tournament she improved to hit .348.

Let’s get to know more about her.

FPN: At what age did you decide that you wanted to become an elite/college softball player, why?

Armstrong: Ever since I was really little I always wanted to play sports in college, I just didn’t know which one I wanted to play. When I was about 16, I came and visited Nebraska and met all the coaches and knew softball was for me!

FPN: When did you hit your first homerun? How did it make you feel?

Armstrong: My first home run was freshman year of high school..it was actually my first and only grand slam of my softball career. I didn’t think I had that much power-I think I was too I’m shock running around the bases!

FPN: Who or what inspired you the most to pursue your dream?

Armstrong: I always wanted to be like my dad and play sports for Nebraska. He was always my biggest supporter and motivator growing up all the way to now.

FPN: What is the first thing you look forward to in the off-season, why?

Armstrong: I love the off season because most of the time you’re on your own and you’re the one pushing yourself. It’s where you can see yourself changing and improving. It’s a good feeling during the season to look back at the hard work you put in during the off-season impact what you’re doing now.

FPN: Are you the type of player who likes to write things on your glove? If so, what do you write?

Armstrong: I do every game on my left forearm or wrist. I usually write Bible verses, initials, or a phase to remind me to do something.

FPN: After a game, what is your favorite thing to eat, why?

Armstrong: I would say 99% of the time I’m eating some type of pasta, especially chicken Parmesan!

FPN: What is your favorite thing about your coach, why?

Armstrong: It’s hard to pick just one thing about Coach Revelle. But, I would say my favorite thing is her willingness to invest in a person. She is always willing to do anything for anyone-whether it is extra reps after practice or sitting down to have a conversation with someone.

FPN: Who is your favorite softball player of all time?

Armstrong: My favorite softball player is my sister, Adria. I started softball because of her and grew up wanting to be just like her. I really appreciate her coming to support me and her willingness to talk about softball with me.
